GARTEN EDEN RHEINLAND-PFALZ
BUNDESGARTENSCHAU KOBLENZ 2011

The ZENDOME.30M is at the centre of the unique project “Garden of Eden Rhineland-Palatinate”, which is being presented at the Federal Horticultural Show Koblenz 2011.

It shows the results of a 14 year old search for old vegetable sorts and cultural plants in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine Westphalia. The garden is sorted according to regions and especially valuable sorts are presented as “Passengers of the Arch of Taste” by the project partner Slow Food Germany.

“Every living being is a little different from its next of kin in terms of DNA information. This genetic diversity is the basis for diversity of species and varieties on the planet. Humans have further developed the positive characteristics of plants by breeding for millennia. The result was a diversity of agricultural crop  which where well suited for their surroundings in terms of genetic characteristics, but also were resistant against parasites or had a better taste.

Today what is used are mostly the varieties from the plant centres. This has lead to a decline of diversity especially in the vegetable gardens.” (Federal Horticultural Show Koblenz 2011)
