FOOTBALL IS COMING DOME

The ball is round. As our ZENDOME tent systems also follow the round shape, the similarity to football is very close. For the football club "Holstein Kiel" we were able to prove this.

The Holstein Dome celebrates its premiere at the Kieler Woche 2018 with the latest match ball design by the main sponsor Puma and the logos of the club. We wish the ball athletes of Holstein Kiel a successful season and many superstructures in the coming successful seasons.

ZENDOME. ANNUAL MEETING OF THE NEW CHAMPIONS

This year’s World Economic Forum “Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2015” took place in Dalian, China. Three geodesic domes – the Cave Dome, the Virtual Reality Dome und the Health Dome were installed in the main lobby of the congress building and hosted a range of activities and discussions during the accompanying congress program. The program tracks were devoted to such socially relevant themes as the present refugee crisis and the destruction of World Heritage sites in war-struck regions.

The project “Pure Land: The Mogao Grottoes at Dunhuang” by the Australian artists Sarah Kenderdine and Jeffrey Shaw was presented in the new ZENDOME.COCOON.

Visitors could virtually step inside one of the famous Mogao Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The grottoes are an ensemble of almost 500 caves in the Dunhuang region, that have been constructed inside cliffs by Buddhist monks almost 1.500 years ago. The walls and ceilings of the caves are painted with elaborate religious imagery and decorated with sculptures.

Unfortunately, the constant flow of visitors flocking to the beautiful Mogao Grottoes have left their trace: a part of the caves had to be closed to the public in order to prevent further deterioration of the artworks. The sensual experience of setting foot inside the „Cave 220“ was once again possible with the help of this digital replica. Standing beneath the Cave Dome’s sloping ceiling, visitors were transported to the desert caves and invited to browse through the collection of ancient objects, all represented in larger-than-life 3D imaging. The project is a good example of the potential VR technologies have for the presentation and preservation of cultural heritage.

Inside the Virtual Reality Dome, visitors experienced the film “Clouds over Sidra“ through VR glasses. It is a documentary that shows the everyday life of a Syrian girl in a refugee camp in Jordan.

In the Health Dome, Tai-Chi workshops were offered to the public, and lectures were held where conference participants could get informed about the newest health and lifestyle trends.

ANNIVERSARY. 350 years Merck

On the occasion of the 350th anniversary of Merck, one of Germany's leading science and technology companies, ZENVISION was asked in 2016 to submit proposals for an event space. The aim was to transform the special corporate culture of Merck - which in 2015 received a bold and consistent relaunch of its CI - into a three-dimensional event construction.

Our proposal to transfer the succinct Merck CI to one of the largest mobile geodesic domes in the world and equip it with a 47-meter multimedia dome that could be used in a large number of places convinced the people responsible.

Already in January 2018 work started on the Merck KGaA site for a dome consisting of a floor area of 2,000 m² and a diameter of 50 m. Up to 25 employees were simultaneously working on the construction of the main dome and the supplementary three smaller ZENDOMEs for six weeks.

The dome of the ZENDOME.2000 (50 m tall and 21 m high) required 40 t of steel. This was anchored in the ground with counterweights made of reinforced concrete with a total weight of more than 500 t. Each of the 5 m long steel bars weighs up to 75 kg. The outer membranes have a total area of 13,000 square meters and have been finished by hand with the characteristic Merck design.

The main dome, the ZENDOME.2000, accommodates 1,700 people at the same time, who can follow the events on the main stage on specially constructed grandstands. In the ground embedded pools support with their reflections produced for the events 360 degrees films.

The ZENDOME.2000 is complemented by three smaller ZENDOME. In the 20-meter ZENDOME.300M interactive content will be presented using state-of-the-art virtual reality technology, informing about the Group's strategic future topics. Two ZENDOME.150M take over the function as cloakroom and inlet.

Officially, the dome landscape was opened as part of a Merck employee celebration in April. The imposing lightweight construction will be open to the public on September,22 2018 for the open day. On October 31, 2018, the dismantling begins again.

ZENDOME. "Jugend forscht"

This year in Ludwigshafen there was a double anniversary: First BASF celebrated its 150th anniversary of the company and, second, the Federal Competition "Youth in Science" was held for the fiftieth time. As this year's corporate sponsor, the chemical company addressed the anniversary finale of the famous competition for young people together with Stiftung Jugend forscht e. V. from 26 to 30 May 2015. This is the third time BASF has worked with the youth foundation: In 1971 and 2003 the German group hosted the finale round. But the researching youth have been a long-time partner of the chemical giant; BASF has hosted the state competitions in Rhineland-Palatinate since the events began in 1965.

The exciting national competition gathered all young researchers who have won one of the first prizes at one of the state competitions. In seven different categories, the best of the best thus competed for the crown of young researchers. A ZENDOME.300M provided an ideal setting besides the BASF recreation centre. With its clean, friendly, and at the same time futuristic look, the ZENDOME precisely reflected the spirit of the whole event: looking optimistically into tomorrow, developing new ideas, and enabling fresh potential.

The temporary architecture was used in the finale round in a variety of ways and equipped accordingly. In addition to presentations and discussions, the geodesic dome provided a lounge with foosball, billiards, and game consoles for the talented youth to relax in. Kinetic movement games ensured that spirits were raised and live streams and briefings provided up-to-date information for all participants. Especially exciting and stimulating was the "Fishbowl" with the chief executive officer of Stiftung and companies. The circular group discussion under the roof of the ZENDOME offered insights into the economic life and ways of thinking of modern decision-makers. The circular arrangement of the participants in the likewise circular geodesic dome made one thing optically clear: ideas need to be exchanged, they must revolve so they spread and are then brought to life.

SILENT DOME - a brand new disco experience

The Kieler Woche 2015 hosted the first ever "silent disco" to be held in a ZENDOME.150M. The impressive geodesic dome was built in the Kiel Castle garden, not far from the fjord, offered more than just impressive views of the cruise ships and Scandinavia ferries anchored in the Baltic Sea. The ZENDOME was an eye-catcher itself, too.

The concept of a silent disco allows people to dance together without causing any noise pollution in the environment. The principle is simple. Visitors wear headphones and can choose between two different DJ sets, adjusting the volume so it is at the most comfortable level for them. Both DJs work the whole time simultaneously and offer two different styles. The audience liked the concept so much that many of them sang along to the better-known songs at full volume, meaning the Silent Dome was not so silent after all.

The ZENDOME.150M proved to be a perfect base for a Silent Disco. With its eye-catching appearance, it incited great public response and its modern appearance fit perfectly to the Spielmacher's mobile club concept. Consideration for the environment, the smallest possible ecological footprint at a maximum level of fun and genuine sustainability: All aspects that made the decision for ZENDOME an easy one for the operators of the Silent Disco. Especially in the evening when the ZENDOME almost lit up from the inside out from the light show, the Silent Disco attracted many a lot of curious visitors each day from the shore of the Baltic Sea up to the castle garden. It was a true musical and visual enrichment to the Kieler Woche – even for those who did not dance.

TEAM WIND VESTAS. greatest comeback in sailing

The Vestas Wind team, which we were allowed to accompany with our ZENDOME.300M on the nine-month Volvo Ocean Race around the world, successfully completed the last stretch after spectacularly running aground in November 2014. The resumption of the extremely demanding regatta testifies to a culture of no mistakes, special motivation from everyone involved and great sportsmanship. After the team had to deal with a serious individual mistake that almost cost the boat, in contrast, the following weeks exhibited perfect teamwork.

The racing yacht was caught by a reef and badly damaged in one of the most remote areas of the world due to a navigational error. It bordered on a miracle that, from the nine-member crew, no one was injured in the accident, but above all, that the badly damaged boat ever again found its way back into the race again. The aim of the extensive maritime salvage was to keep the deck of the yacht as intact as possible, since it was the part of the ship that was impossible to replace before the end of the race. Thanks to Maersk, one of the main sponsors, a container ship was even especially redirected so that the remains of the racing yacht could be picked up in a very narrow time frame and transported further. After a short amount of time, the badly damaged boat then arrived at the shipyard in Persico, Italy, where they took up the challenge to speedily reconstruct the ship with great sportsmanship.

In the end, the team finally succeeded in resuming the race in Portugal. Their re-entry was not only very important for the athletes themselves, but also for the various sponsors. We were also pleased that they took our ZENDOME.300M, with a membrane that was strikingly printed in the team colors, as they made a spectacular finish in Gothenburg. In the end, it shows: Mistakes can be corrected, no matter how difficult they are. You just have to make the right assessments and work consequentially.

WORLD PRESS PHOTO. Photo Journalism in Domescape

Photos that startle. Images that show us the world as it really is. Often merciless, sometimes shocking, always inspiring: For more than half a century, the World Press photo competitions provide for a genuine sensation. And where better for an exhibition of the best works to be held than in Bucharest, the city that has witnessed so many dramatic moments itself?

And what would draw more attention and be more effective in the media than staging this important exhibition amidst a whole landscape of interconnected individual domes in the heart of this unique city? From May 8th to 29th, 2015, World Press showed the best photojournalistic works in the five interconnected structures from ZENVISION: From the entrance area in the ZENCUBE 5x5, it moved along into the ZENDOME.150M and from there, through a tunnel that consisted of two successive ZENCUBE 5X5's, and finally into the ZENDOME.300M. This expansive temporary architecture in the middle of the centrally-located Universitätsplatz made it clear at first glance that something truly extraordinary was going on here and aroused the interest of invited guests and passersby. The airy atmosphere and the discreet white color of every ZENDOME transported visitors in their interiors to a separate, focused world without imposing itself. This effect allowed for the appropriate amount of attention to be paid to the superb photographic work, which showed how visual storytelling is currently being developed. In the end it was a total work of art that sparked curiosity in everyone from old to young, offering a survey of our world and making a clear architectural impression, at that.

DREAMTIME-DOME. Beautiful Europe (360° Movie)

Inside the "Traumzeit-Dome" (ZENDOME.500M) the largest "Immersive Media Screen" (IMS) in the world started its service to show the "Beautiful Europe" 360°Show.

Where? Of course, at Europa-Park Rust, one of the most sought after attractions in Germany and the "Best Theme Park of Europe" according to TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice 2014.

The new projection dome was developed by the world's leading provider of geodesic domes, the Berlin-based company ZENVISION. The overall concept was designed by the creative agency, TRIAD.

"A Dream! The 40th anniversary of the Europa-Park is a very special occasion for all of us when we give our visitors and guests European moments as a multimedia experience; and that on an impressive 630m² projection screen, the largest mobile, digital full-dome system: The Traumzeit-Dome (dreamtime dome)". says Roland Mack - CEO of Europa-Park Rust and former President of IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions)

Maximum emotional involvement can be achieved in two ways: the user can be completely isolated from their environment with the use of Oculus Rift or for shared / group experience, via the dome projections used at "Traumzeit-Dome". The IMS is the projection surface built into the dome, meaning that the visitor can look up while standing or get comfy in one of the beanbags made available to get immersed. Enjoy!

ZENDOME. AUDI

In the two months of November and December of 2014, Audi brought a piece of real Christmas magic to German cities. The "Audi Quattro lounge", which was located in several ZENDOME, presented different theme worlds with interactive exhibits around the innovative all-wheel drive models of the corresponding TT and A6 in this geodesic domescape.

"Igloos in the winter. I was at the Media Park and had a look at right away. You could could spot the quality of Zendome very well that fits Audi. It's great that it was a direct comparison this time: Vorsprung durch Technik".

With the successful tour, in which individual ZENDOME selected were designed just like a mountain chalet and gave rise to real holiday feeling, the numerous visitors in Hamburg, Cologne, and Berlin were convinced by "Vorsprung durch Technik."

VESTAS. Volvo Ocean Race

With the world-famous "Volvo Ocean Race", which began on October 4, 2014 and will run around the globe, the geodesic dome from Berlin is the companion of the TEAM VESTAS WIND. Together with the Swedish agency Agenda Group, ZENVISION presented its striking mobile architecture for the first time in Alicante (Spain).

Other stations were Cape Town (South Africa), Abu Dhabi, Sanya (China), Auckland (New Zealand), Itajai (Brazil), Newport (USA), Lisbon (Portugal) and Lorient (France) which have been initiated by the sailors. Very sad for Team VESTAS: In an accident, the Volvo Ocean 65 was badly damaged and had to be repaired by the Persico Marine in Italy. But the team showed sportingly and stood by the other crews in the ports.

We keep our fingers crossed that the team led by skipper Chris Nicholson makes the re-entry and the printed membrane of ZENDOME.300M is also finally presented in Gothenburg a visible testimony of maritime hospitality and sportsmanship of the Swedish racing team and its sponsors as well.

The graphic design and the colors of the ZENDOME membrane are oriented to the design of the racing boat itself and the geodetic design encompasses the interior planning and the installation of an impressive gallery 450 m2 on two floors.

WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM
ANNUAL MEETING OF THE NEW CHAMPIONS

The World Economic Forum "Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2014" was held in Tianjin/China in September 2014. High on the agenda of the WEF were environmental concerns, and the position the private sector will take "given renewed attention to climate change by China, the United States and the European Union".

Highlighting the urgency of the discussion was an artwork by Australian artist Lynette Wallworth and Producer John Maynard, shot by Emmy Award-winning cinematographer David Hannan. ZENVISION, VFX Alliance, and TAUCHER created a slow-paced sound intermezzo, which sensitized the audience in-between screenings.

On the 360° full-dome Immersive Media Screen was concept was to present the movie Coral: Rekindling Venus. It shows the fluorescent inhabitants of the Great Barrier Reef within the ZENDOME.9800FC-h and gave the audience an emotional idea of the important role which corals play in underwater ecosystems. TAUCHER also provided the the design, technology and the operating support of the wireless sound system.
